Smart Botanic Art
Creating Specialty Gardens and Living Floristry designed to Thrive
Gardens and florals rooted in Charleston. Created with intention, shaped by experience, and designed to endure beyond the moment.
Sydney Schwiebert, Owner & Lead Horticulturalist
Smart Botanic Art was founded on a simple belief:
the most beautiful work does not end when the moment is over.
In Charleston, where landscape and architecture are inseparable, we design with permanence in mind: gardens that thrive, florals that endure, and spaces that feel as though they have always belonged in the Lowcountry.
A Living Practice
The studio is led by a Sydney Schwiebert, a horticulturalist with nearly a decade of experience working with Charleston’s gardens and flowers.
Her work spans historic gardens, prominent downtown installations, and large-scale weddings alongside luxury florists across the Lowcountry. She designed and installed work in some of Charleston’s most visible public spaces.
But it was in the quieter work, maintaining and testing identical window boxes under the same conditions, that a deeper understanding took shape:
what thrives,
what fails,
and why.
That knowledge informs every decision we make.
Beyond Decoration
We approach gardens and florals as living systems.
Each plant is selected not only for how it looks on installation day, but for how it will grow, adapt, and endure. Light, soil, water, and long-term care are considered from the beginning, creating spaces that feel composed rather than imposed.
Many of the plants we use are grown from seed in our Summerville greenhouse, allowing us to offer uncommon varieties already adapted to the Lowcountry that are stronger, more resilient, and unique.
Gardens & Gatherings
Our work moves between private landscapes and significant moments.
In the garden, we design for longevity, spaces that unfold and share new beauty with us over time.
For weddings and events, we offer both traditional florals and our signature living installations: arrangements composed with plants that can be replanted afterward. What begins as a celebration becomes something lasting, carried forward into the landscape itself.
Our Clients
